The firing pin for this .380 build is off center, unfortunately I can't do much about that without a complete rebuild. As you can see, I rotated the shell 3x to figure out if the firing pin was too high or too low. This happens also when I remove the firing pin limiting screw, so it's not that...

What could be causing these light strikes and is this still viable or do I really need to rebuild everything? **Causes I could imagine: **

  • firing pin too short
  • Hammer spring too week
  • firing pit spring too long/strong
  • primer isn't going off because it's not being hit on center

Can I still set off the primer if it isn't being hit perfectly on center? What's the most likely culprit?

I'd appreciate some input

What are you building? The diagnosis will be very different for a parts kit pistol build and something fully DIY like the Decker.
