Meshtastic

I got a kit and just assembled it. I tried to google it and I can turn it off but it powers back up after 5 minutes or so. I haven’t even set it up yet. Any ideas what’s going on?

I thought about being a "meshtastic pioneer" and in my head that means rebroadcasting on multiple frequency slots just so meshtastic user can connect without me independently having them to tell them what channel and modem preset I'm on. with my research it seems that there isn't 1 thing I can buy that can work on the entire US(915) band). im curious if anyone would recommend or has installed a radio repeator for meshtastic bands

With no guarantee that this project would ever be useful or even meaningful, I decided to develop a node called Meshtbank.

Meshtbank maintains a central ledger with users, transactions, and balances. It uses the default channel to broadcast system information such as activation and command notices, and it uses direct messages for all operations. An administrator, authenticated through a PIN, can remotely operate the system: creating and deleting accounts, or checking balances and transaction histories.

This would probably work for like a festival or convention. Don't really see it being practical outside of cases like that, but it's a cool use of Meshtastic nonetheless.

The idea came from event firmware such as DEFCon and hamvention. The thought is that having an automatic 50/50 split between CLIENT and CLIENT_MUTE should reduce channel utilization while still allowing the user to manually change the role if needed.

Either that or have a setting to set known portables such as the Seeed T1000-E, RAK WisMesh Tag, etc into CLIENT_MUTE by default while leaving things like the Station G2 in CLIENT mode. Thoughts?

Edit: Another thought is that you could weight it, such that 75% would be CLIENT and 25% CLIENT_MUTE.

What are some good resources for learning how to create nodes. Say I want to get creative and make a solar powered node that I can stick on my car's roof rack. How do I even go about learning how to do that?

I've made a little utility on Android that allows you to record audio > compress > encrypt > convert to base 64 and I am wondering if there are any ways to streamline sending the data over meshtastic or are there limits to the amount of characters you can send?

I think I have a decent setup (heltec v3, 3000mah battery, aftermarket antenna) yet I struggle to make contact with anyone. I'm a little confused as I do receive messages on the general the Long-Fast channel but my messages never seem to send or be acknowledged. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the nature if radio comms?

I'm curious about trying meshtastic, and I was planning to buy the Wio L1 Tracker once aliexpress sales start. Though, I have read that the antenna isn't quite great, so I was thinking about buying a better one. Also, I'm buying the pro one instead of the oled kit because for 15 extra euros I get both the battery and the assembled case.

The meshtastic website recommends the gizont 10dbi whip antenna for 868 mhz (I'm in europe). The problem is that the antenna comes in sma-male or in rp-sma-male, and I have no idea what connector the tracker has. I know I could just buy an extra ipex connector, but I'd rather keep the original one, rather than spending extra money, considering I'm not even sure to catch any node in my area.

Another question I have is if it's reasonable to use a 10dbi antenna or if it's too high gain, as I see people use ~6dbi antennas for base stations. I'm in an urban area most of the times, but I also plan on using it for hiking, a couple of time in the summer. I know nothing about radios, so I have no idea of how impactful are these numbers.

Finally after over a month of order issues I have one of my T1000-E trackers. It was easy to set up and connect and I see several nodes. Haven’t reached anybody yet. I am in Canada but the location on the map still shows Shenzhen in China. I don’t see anything to change that and was also expecting the GPS would do its thing?!

What the heck #meshtastic device is that with the T9 keyboard? It's got me seriously remembering my very first flip phone back in like 2005.

Side note: how do y'all carry your antennaed nodes while out and about? Like to the gym or errands

The lamp isn’t used/connected any longer. It’s wide open around the building but no way to get there. The tractor won’t reach. 😟

You know what would be kinda cool? A #Brailletastic. It would be a #Meshtastic node, but instead of a visual screen it would have a braille display and braille keyboard input similar to the orbit reader 20

Has anybody heard about this? I ordered a couple beginning of the month. They were back ordered with an estimated re-stock date of Oct 25. Now I get an email they are discontinued and it sounds like the order is cancelled. 😞

I tried to find another store in Canada who sells it but no luck?! Also if it’s discontinued what should I buy instead?

I like alot of people have fell into the rabbit hole which is LoRa. No this is not a AA meeting, this a release announcement, for the last month or two i have designed and prototyped a fully modular and open sourced case,

i go more into detail on printables, but ill keep it short here

1.Public Domain license I did this because i love LoRa and the meshtastic community, its just so cool to be able to find other people in the wild whom are also turbo nerds like myself. However when i got into this hobby, it left a bitter taste in my mouth knowing that the most popular cases all have very restrictive licenses. Some of which not allowing Remixing, which i think hampers innovation and RepRap culutre. So i designed a 3d printable case for this!

2. Interoperability I see a lot of other cases have separate designs for the RAK, Heltecs and T breams. So when designing this case my main goal was to make it separate parts allowing different components to be swapped. I did this by making it 4 main body parts.

3.Objective

The main reason i made this was because i wanted a FULLY open alternative, it honestly kills me as a maker. When i find a really cool project or model but it doesnt allow remixing.

4. Story

about 6 months ago i bought myself a heltec v3 and became obsessed with meshtastic. This obsession like many others eventually made its way into my friend group, so i showed my friends.This awesome and potentially ground breaking technology, So my heltec then became 3 RAK's. I 3d printed one of the most popular cases on printables for meshtastic (you know the one) and i liked it. but then i had all these IDEAS! what if i made a flap to cover the USB port? What if i made a molly webbing and belt clip??? but i then realized the license doesn't allow remixing or modding the design, well all these crazy ideas plagued me, until i decided to do some modeling. It took over 30 revisions to make it the way i want, and its not 100% perfect but i feel it has good bones. So i printed 3 of them and a few weeks ago myself and friends assembled our radios.

To be genuine for a second, i really could not care less if somebody take this design and sells it, remixes it or makes something infinity better than my original. I JUST WANT A BETTER ALTERNATIVE!!
