That sounds like they don't understand Lemmy more than anything. Hosting their own instance would solve that just like any other software, but with the added benefit of federation for a wider reach. Their own "reddit style" website that they set the TOS/rules/whatever on, and communicate with the rest of the Fediverse if so desired.

Oh well I guess. I wish them luck wherever they land.
